Meet The Founder

Stephanie Blackman Ballard

Our founder, Stephanie Blackman Ballard, is a trauma-informed psychotherapist who adopts an integrative approach tailored to individual needs and preferences. She draws from an array of evidence-based methods, blending psychological theory with contemporary neuroscience to enhance the healing process. Her work often incorporates Psychodynamic, Somatic, Gestalt, Attachment, Acceptance & Commitment, and CBT approaches.

Stephanie’s experience across diverse clinical settings – community-based services, a psychiatric hospital and schools – spans clients aged 12 – 90. This extensive training has enhanced her adaptability, enabling her to work safely and effectively with a wide range of clientele. She is particularly experienced supporting adolescents and adults in their 20s to 40s with anxiety, relationships, self-esteem and identity, ADHD and periods of transition.

Stephanie’s background also includes experience in the corporate world and an MBA from London Business School. Her approach is thoughtful, psychologically rigorous and grounded, combining deeper exploration with practical tools to support genuine progress and lasting change.

Outside her clinical work, Stephanie enjoys dancing, playing tennis, watching musical theatre and opera, and walking her dogs.

Philosophy

We believe therapy is about making connections – understanding how past experiences shape present patterns, recognising how you think, feel and relate, and closing the gap between the life you are living and the one you would like to create.

At The Connectry, therapy is a collaborative, thought-provoking and perspective-shifting process. Together, we look beneath what is happening on the surface, find clarity around what may be keeping you stuck, and uncover new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Because insight is most valuable when it creates movement, our work is ultimately about helping you turn greater self-awareness into meaningful, sustainable change. Psychotherapy can support healthier emotional connections to yourself and others, while drawing on the brain’s capacity to adapt and reshape neural connections in response to new experiences.

Approach

As a therapy practice, we draw thoughtfully from a range of evidence-based methods. Where relevant, we also incorporate findings from contemporary neuroscience research to deepen our understanding of how patterns of thought, emotion and behaviour develop, persist and can change.

We aim to help you identify and understand thoughts and emotions that may be preventing you from leading the life you envision. Within a contained, collaborative and creative space, we can explore your present experiences and consider how your past has shaped you, as well as identifying patterns that are often difficult to recognise when you are living inside them, but that may perpetuate current symptoms and behaviours. We work to resuscitate your inner resources and formulate more helpful and sustainable coping strategies.

From a position of greater self-awareness, understanding can become more than insight. It can become a catalyst for meaningful and lasting change, creating greater clarity and enabling better informed decision-making aligned with your values. This clarity also opens up the possibility of healthier emotional and physical connections to your authentic self, both body and mind, and towards those you love, allowing you to move forward with a greater sense of inner freedom, self-belief and hope.

We are committed to offering a space where all individuals feel safe, supported and understood. Our approach is therefore inclusive and affirming of all races, ethnicities, religions, neurotypes and LGBTQ+ identities.
